Falling for Autumn: Bookish Confessions

As part of the Falling for Autumn readathon hosted by A Cup of Coffee and a Book, I’m hosting a challenge! I did this challenge for the Bout of Books readathon as well ages ago, and it was just so much fun. It’s called Bookish Confessions, and you’re invited to share yours! Though this challenge is designed for the readathon, feel free to join even if you aren’t readathon-ing with us.

confessionspngTo participate, either (1) share a funny/embarrassing/interesting confession or (2) answer the this or that questions below. You can post the answers on your blog or here in the comments.

I’ll go first. My confession is that I prefer to keep my books in such a pristine condition, that it interferes with my ability to actually read them. I KNOW.

I’m one of those people that hates it when the spine of a book breaks, so I can’t open a book fully. For some particularly tight bindings I’ve developed this technique where I just kinda peek into the book so I don’t have to completely open it. I’ve perfected holding a book open at a right angle (so you can only read one page at a time before you have to turn it a bit). Sometimes it’s hard to read the text close to the spine.

What is your bookish confession?

Or, if you’re stumped for something to share, answer these questions:

Physical book or eBook?
Paperback or Hardcover?
Reality or Make-believe?
Adult or Young-Adult?
Dog ears or Bookmarks?
Breaking the spine or Barely open the book?
Tea or Coffee?
Reading in bed or On the couch?
Series or Standalone?
Original or TV Adaptation?
Defy motion sickness or Audiobooks?
Author crushes or Who-was-that-guy-again?
Interview or Guest post?

  1. I can toally relate to wanting to keep books in pristine condition. I have some pretty thick books with around 400 pages that don’t have a single crease in the spine because I am so carefull with them.
I used to take books with me to school and some suffered small injuries, but most of my books still look really nice. Some look like I haven’t even read them. Some of the small mass market paperbacks are almost impossible to read and keep in pristine condition.

  2. Hi Celine! Great post 🙂 I guess one of the things I noticed about my reading habits is that I used to dog ear allll the books. I loved it–it was so convenient. I’m not exactly sure why/when/how this changed, but now if I don’t have a book mark around (read: receipt, piece of paper, a hair tie…) I mentally freak out if I absolutely must dog ear a page. Strange right? I think keeping the pages neat and clean feeds my OCD 🙂

  3. I confess, I have a terrible memory for author names especially when it comes to authors of short stories I’ve read in anthologies. I’m constantly saying, “Oh, that guy!” or “Her! I loved that story by her!”

  4. I have so many bookish confessions it’s insane. I hate lending books because I got a few back totally crappy. I hate breaking spines as well but I got over that. Now I just make sure no food and drink comes near one and that I don’t bend or crumple pages etc. :L I am very Madam Pince about them 😀 I would never write into one or highlight something ugh! :X

Physical book or eBook? Both, don’t really mind it, but I like how paper ones are always on full battery 😀
Paperback or Hardcover? HB if at all possible, especially with fat books.
    Reality or Make-believe? Fantasy ofc.
Adult or Young-Adult? I enjoy both.
Dog ears or Bookmarks? BOOKMARKS. Jesus. :X No bending!
Breaking the spine or Barely open the book? Now I am okay with anything, but if I can get away with not breaking the spine, I’m okay. 😀
Tea or Coffee? Coffee, then tea.
Reading in bed or On the couch? Couch, bed makes me sleepy 😀
    Series or Standalone? Series.
    Original or TV Adaptation? Original!
Defy motion sickness or Audiobooks? I never listened to a book but I think I’ll try it. As for motion sickness… I barely have any influence on it but reading in a car is more or less a no for me 😀
Author crushes or Who-was-that-guy-again? CRUSH 😀
Interview or Guest post? GP because #LAZY. 😀

  5. You would freak out if you saw the state of my books. I’m pretty careless and been known to digest and break spines wrecklessly!
My confession is when I’m in a bookshop, I place a much loved book to the front of a shelf so it will be seen :O. I know, my bad, apologies to anyone who works in a bookshop!

    • Haha actually I’m fine with people wrecking their own books! As weird as that may sound. I used to work in the library, where people do the same thing. WE HATE YOU.

Just kidding – I completely get it and sometimes did it myself (don’t tell my boss)
